The Biggest Mistake Christians Make in Court
We all face prosecutors in the court of accusations. The good news is that Jesus Christ is our advocate:
"My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous" 1 John 2:1
Nevertheless, many of us make the mistake of faulty pleading in court. The result is imprisonment.
The Court: Every time we face the voice of accusation, we enter a court proceeding. The goal of entering into court is accomplishing justice, including our freedom. God made us, and Jesus saved us for freedom.
The Mistake: We plead: "Because I possess the righteousness of God, God no longer sees me or my sin; he only sees Jesus. Therefore, my sin is inconsequential."
Problem: Effectively, this pleading is a "not guilty" pleading on the grounds that Satan has no right to perceive my sin, and neither can anyone else. This pleading is a mistake because satan does have the right to perceive our sin. It is our sin that gives him grounds for accusation. The above pleading doesn't believe in the efficacy of Jesus' blood, evidenced by the lack of guilt acknowledged. We can't be forgiven sins we didn't commit.
Evidence of The Wrong Verdict: Many Christians make this incorrect pleading and, as a result, never escape the guilt, shame, condemnation, addiction, depression, etc.
The Correct Pleading: "I am guilty. I plead the blood of Jesus. Have mercy on my, Lord." You will hear the declaration: "Acquitted!" And this time you really will go free.
